Hi, everyone!

I’m Sayuri Kondo.

I have come to Australia to study English.

It is just over a month since I arrived in Australia.

First, I will write about my host family. My host family is a lovely couple. They are really kind to me. Mum cooks very tasty and healthy food every day. I love her dishes. I was worried about becoming fat but she cooks tasty salads so I don’t need to worry about food.

Secondly, I will introduce my school. I am going to an Australian school for the first time. I have been glad to have morning tea-time. Also, I am happy about the fact that we can go home earlier than Japanese schools and we do not have school on Monday. In other words, I have three holidays every week!!

After school, I went to the library with my friends and I was surprised that we can get some snacks and fruit as afternoon tea at the library. It is impossible in Japan as you know.

Also I have been surprised that we use laptops in most classes. I do not use computers so much in Japan. So, I am struggling with using a laptop.

In class, unlike Japan, we don’t have homework every day. Instead, we have to write some essays. It is very hard for me. I hope that I will be good at writing English by doing these essay assignments.

At morning tea-time and lunchtime, I chat with my friends. They talk with me very kindly, friendly, and humorously. The time I chat with them is my most happy time. I love them.

On the weekend, I went to the city with my friends. The city looks more like Tokyo than the town where I live. I bought some nice clothes, birthday presents for my friends, and a Mother’s Day present there.

Australia also has Mother’s Day. The date is the same as in Japan. In Japan, we give carnations to our own mothers. However, in Australia, we give chrysanthemums. This flower contains the word “mum” at the end of its name so we give this flower. Besides, there is Father’s Day too but the date is different from Japan. It is the first Sunday of September. On that day, I will give some gifts to my host father.

Do you know “Relay for life”? The other day, I took part in it. It is the charity event which is held for cancer patients. The cancer patients are fighting cancer 24 hours. So, we keep walking 24 hours by relay. In the evening, we had a candle ceremony. It was so beautiful and impressive. After that, we had a lip sync battle. It was fun. Fortunately, our team was able to get 2nd place. I was very glad. That night, I didn’t sleep. I did things like walking and chatting with my friends all night. I was tired but I think that it was a valuable experience.

have felt keenly about the standard of my English skills since I came here. Recently, I tried to speak in English with my Japanese friends. I do not want to waste this study abroad so I will try my very best to study hard.

Thank you for reading my written piece of work.

See you soon!!
