Hi everyone!

I am Sayuri Kondo.

These days, I have been feeling that winter is coming. It is difficult for me to decide clothes and regulate body temperature because it is very cold in the morning and the evening but daytime is quite warm in Australia. How about Japan??

From 4 June, two Taiwanese girls stayed in my house for three weeks. They came here as short term study abroad students. Before they came, I was really nervous because of some worries. What if I cannot speak English well? What if I cannot get along with them? However, I didn’t need to worry like that. They were very friendly and pretty. My feeling was as if I had become an older sister because they were younger than I. When we had to say bye, I was very sad. I miss them!! Also, they made me want to go to Taiwan.

Unfortunately, I could not talk with the Taiwanese girls very much because I had to study for block exams. My school also has exams like Japan. But we have only one set of exams in each semester. In the English exam, we had to write a short story about Australia. My teacher taught international students some Australian English for this exam. Do you know “Barbie”? It is not a famous doll. (I thought like that at first.) It means “Barbecue”. There are a lot of different words in Australia like this. In this report, I will introduce some words.

Afternoon → arvo

Hello → G’day

That’s all right → No worries

Sweets → Lollies

Breakfast → Brekkie

Sausages → Snags            and so on…

At first, I could not understand what people were saying because they sometimes used these words. However, now, I also sometimes use these words. If you travel to Australia, I hope this information will help you.

The dance exam was a piece of choreography. We had to make groups, select a song from a musical and choreograph the song freely. I made a group with three Japanese students and performed. We used the song of Disney’s summer festival show, “爽涼鼓舞(soryokobu)”. Our performance’s theme was “Japan”. So, we wore yukata and Japanese high school uniform in yukata. The practice was hard for me because I had never danced before. But, I enjoyed practising with my friends. After we performed, a lot of friends said to us, “Your performance was so awesome! I love it!”

“It was amazing!” I almost cried. We were so glad. Moreover, we accepted the offer from the teacher to perform at two other performing opportunities. I am nervous to perform in front of a large audience but I am looking forward to it.

From this weekend, I have a winter holiday!! I am looking forward to going shopping and going somewhere with my friends. Next report, I think that I will write about my holiday.

Thank you for reading my written piece of work.

See you soon!!
